3D World

Today I have added colour to my world and increased the size of the forest. I made the clouds various shades of a purple-grey as I wanted them to be stormy looking, I also made the mountain dark purple as purple shades were in my colour scheme. I tried doing each face of the mountain a different shade but it ended up looking a bit silly. I made the moon a sickly green colour, I’m going to try and add craters to make it more moon-like.

For the trees I made each layer a different shade of green then the trunk brown, however from the top it doesn’t look very realistic as they’re all the same shade of green so I need to vary the shade. I found the quickest way to create the forest was to highlight a group of trees, move function, shift button and drag as this clones them all so I could quickly increase the volume of trees.

I have started to change the colours of various trees to try make the forest look more natural but I think because there’s so many of them its running a bit slow. I think with more time this world could look a lot better but as it is its a little bit basic, as I do more with MAYA though it is becoming easier so I think it is something I would like to keep practising. I don’t see myself as a games designer or a 3D animator at the moment but its always good to learn new skills.

While trying to change the colour of large groups of trees MAYA keeps crashing so I think I’m trying to make it do to much. I used the outliner function to select random trees at once so I could change their colour without having to click each one individually.

it definitely isn’t a finished scene and I’m not that happy with it but its all I have time for, as I’ve never used MAYA before I don’t know what is a good 3D world and what isn’t but I don’t think this is. To be completely honest I don’t think I will use MAYA again, its just too complicated. With practise I could probably get better at it but I don’t think its my thing, I found it quite frustrating. As I didn’t enjoy the process I just couldn’t get into it or feel passionate about what I was creating which is why its so boring.
