Sketching and drawing rotation
The brief for this week was to draw strangers and their environment on location then use these drawings as inspiration for a 3 piece narrative story, using your chosen picture as the middle drawing.
First I went to the Tate Modern to do my observational drawings but it was pretty quiet and I felt awkward at first drawing people so it took me a while to settle into it, I then moved to a Pret because I could sit down and draw people/things out the window. There was more variation to the environment here so it was better for drawing.
For my narrative drawings I chose a little bundled up guy I saw crossing the road, he looked sad and small so I decided to make him a little mouse man who lived in the middle of a busy road in London but despite his petite stature still had to go about a normal life.
I actually really enjoyed this rotation as I usually have a bad habit of avoiding drawing as I find drawing realistically frustrating but this exercise helped me realise that drawing doesn’t have to be so serious and I can draw silly little men and cars that don’t look like actual cars and it doesn’t really matter. I find drawing a lot funner when I don’t take it very seriously. I need to start drawing more as its a very useful skill.
